Engineering leaders and teams often face challenges with respect to documenting, measuring and presenting the value of their initiatives - especially the work that is happening “behind the scenes” or that is not directly requested by the business. Often times, “value” is poorly or abstractly defined. Even when it is well-understood, it is difficult to shift the definition amidst fast-moving disruptions and pivot measurements of success to reflect business outcomes. Storytelling is a critical skill to put context behind the work of engineering teams and translate technical concepts to business value.
