Sean Lynch, Vice President Technology—Data & Architecture, has set himself apart with his unique breadth of understanding of the Southwest Airlines IT estate, as well as a keen ability to take complex IT concepts and make them accessible to anyone. In his role, Sean is accountable for ensuring Southwest’s systems leverage the most modern computer science advancements, and that the power of Southwest’s data is unlocked and made available to our Employees and Customers at the right place, in the right way, at the right time.
Sean has served at Southwest Airlines since 1999. Prior to that, he served in development and leadership positions at Raytheon. When he joined Southwest, he started as a developer on southwest.com and was quickly promoted into Leadership positions overseeing most of Southwest’s Customer and Commercial Technology organizations. In time, it was Sean’s passion for bringing together advanced computer science to solve hard business problems led him to temporarily step out of leadership to establish an IT architecture practice at Southwest, which he has grown and developed with increasing levels of leadership accountability. In his time here, Sean has led the architectural work around the integration of AirTran, the modernization of Southwest’s reservation system, the establishment of an integrated data foundation, and has been a continual champion for adopting new capabilities into the airline’s IT footprint.
Sean has the heart of a teacher and demonstrates that through his volunteer work at his local church. Sean is a graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. He is married to his high school sweetheart and together they have three daughters. In his free time, Sean is a consummate nerd who loves all things Marvel and Disney, reading, and strategic board games. He is an avid fan of the Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers.
